A Lógica de Port-Royal deu esse nome à proposição “que afirma uma coisa sobre um sujeito, salvo de uma parte dele”; p. ex.: “Segundo os estoicos, todos os homens são loucos, salvo os sábios” (Arnauld, Log., II, 10, 2).
